La Befana, Italian Santa Claus, Italian folklore, old woman with magical powers who arrives on Epiphany Eve with gifts for children
In Italian folklore, Befana is an old woman who delivers gifts to children throughout Italy on Epiphany Eve (the night of January 5) in a similar way to St Nicholas or Santa Claus. The story is that La Befana was approached by the Three Wise Men who asked her to lead them to the stable where the baby Jesus lay in a manger. La Befana was too busy cleaning her house at the time, so she declined the offer to go with them. Very soon she realized that she had made a huge mistake, so she gathered up a bag full of gifts and set off alone in search of the baby Jesus. Though she followed the same star as the Magi, she was unable to find the stable. Undaunted, la Befana continues to travel the world over to this day searching every house for the Christ child leaving gifts and treats in her wake.
LIMITED EDITION
Every Limited Edition Kenfolks character begins with one of my original sculptures that I have cast using quality artist resin. This process captures all the detail of the original work. These limited edition replicas are then decorated entirely by hand and each character is exquisitely adorned to create a unique one of a kind Christmas art keepsake. My dedicated attention to detail is what sets these collectables apart, often making each element from scratch like paper top hats and knitted scarfs to candy canes and telescopes. I use a wide variety of materials like real fur, sparkling Swarovski crystals, antique jewelry, top quality fabrics/leather, enamel paints and glues. After years of creating these wonderful keepsakes I still believe the magic is in the details. Built to last, these charming collectibles can be cherished for generations.
